DESIGN AND INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The aim of the Association, 6 Queen Square, London, W.C.2, is to promote a good standard of design in the products of British Industry by encouraging good workmanship based on excellence of design, soundness of material and perfect fitness for purpose. DESIGN FOR TO-DAY is the official organ of the Association.

MEETINGS

The meeting of the Association on April 25th at which Mr. James Laver spoke on THE MODERN MOVEMENT IN STAGE DESIGN was a brilliant conclusion to the 1933-34 series of evening meetings.

However, the visit of Dr. Walter Gropius to England for the opening of the exhibition of his work at the R.I.B.A. enabled the Association to arrange a special meeting for members on Wednesday, May 16th. The subject of Dr. Gropius’ talk was THE FUTURE OF THE TOWNS. He was the founder and for many years the Director of the Bauhaus at Dessau, the famous centre of research and experiment in new materials and methods of construction which gave impetus and direction to the modern movement in Germany and which has thus influenced the contemporary style throughout Europe, and the Association welcomed this opportunity of paying tribute to his work.

Evening meetings cease throughout the summer months, commencing again at the end of October.
