The Thirty was started in 1905, and its motto has always been "For the Betterment of Advertising" As such it has played quite a big part in most of the progressive movements of the advertising business.

It assisted Mr. Wareham Smith very largely in the establishment of the Aldwych Club, and the campaign which has led to the holding of the 1924 Convention in London is almost entirely the conception of the Thirty Club; being really a revival of plans made in 1914 which were brought to a standstill by the war. The Advertising Exhibition at the White City in 1920 was promoted in London by the Club.

Originally confined to thirty members it has now a power to make a similar number of Associate Members all at a subscription of three guineas, but owing to "the limited number of vacancies election is and always has been exceedingly difficult.

The club is absolutely non-political, the only force that binds the members together being the freemasonry of business and the candid expression and exchange of opinions and ideas. and debates, and for gathering and recording information upon matters relating to advertising. The club is composed of men And women of all ranks, drawn from all branches of advertising.

It was formed with a great treble purpose, firstly to concern itself with raising the standard of technique of advertising, secondly to maintain in advertising the same dignity and integrity that characterises British business everywhere, and thirdly, to interpret advertising to the general public, to expound its usefulness in furthering not only business interests but also the best interests of the community as a whole. The society is noted for the enthusiasm of its members, for they are men and women who have caught the spirit of modern publicity, the spirit of real public service. Among other things the club has set itself the task of creating a wider public confidence in advertising, a wider recognition of its functions as a vital factor in our commercial prosperity. The club possesses a quarterly official organ called "Publicity". It was instituted in 1921, and is in charge of an honorary editor. It records the activities of the club, reports the more important meetings, and contains contributed matter from members and others. Other periodical publications of the Publicity Club are the reports of the Club Bureau of Advertising Facts. "Publicity" is free to members and country members of The Publicity Club: non-members 2/6 a copy, 10/- a year.
