Austen, Peter. Imperial Chemical Industries: a new departure in advertising. Graphis vol.2, no.15 (May\Jun.1946) pp.382-386, 396 illus.
Inspired by Sidney Rogerson, chief of publicity at Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), the company launched an advertising campaign at the end of 1940 in which leading British artists and ICI scientists collaborated. The advertisements were placed in the more "serious" daily and weekly press and aimed to give information about the activities, personalities and equipment of the British chemical industry. The first series was 'Aspects of an Industry'; the second, 'Services of an Industry'; the third was 'Personnel of an Industry; the current fourth series is 'Equipment of an Industry'. Two further series are forthcoming. Among artists who worked on the campaign and whose examples are shown in the article include Edward Wadsworth, Hamzah Carr, C.F. Tunnicliffe, A.R. Thomson, John Armstrong, Keith Henderson, Doris Zinkeisen and Lawrence Scarfe. [11 illustrations]
